Connected Belonging

A relational approach to school wellbeing strategy

This video, from University of Bath was shown for the first time at the event: Connected Belonging: Mental health event for schools and partners held on Thursday 29th June 2023 in Trowbridge.

The event was funded by University of Bath Impact Fund.

Connected Belonging supports and complements other approaches including Healthy Schools, 5 ways to wellbeing, Five to Thrive  and the current national guidance for schools.

The workshop outlined an evidence-informed approach to enhancing wellbeing in schools and a set of principles to shape wellbeing strategy in your setting.

Education Researchers from the University of Bath shared key findings from a six-year research programme.

This included insights into young people’s perspectives on their mental health support in schools in South West England and key aspects of wellbeing that they feel are neglected.

The focus is on the practical relevance of these findings, while exploring how and why supporting pupils’ sense of connectedness and belonging is essential to wellbeing.

Connected Belonging Pilot events

Following positive feedback from school and MHST staff at the launch event in Trowbridge in June 2023, and an online briefing in September 2023 a number of local schools will trial and evaluate Connected Belonging with a cohort of pupils in 2023/24.

We will outline the Connected Belonging approach, show you how to access resources for your school and explain what is involved in piloting this with a small cohort.
