Living Streets - WOW
WOW - The Walk to School Challenge
The WOW package usually costs around £500 for an average sized primary school but schools across Wiltshire are eligible to take part in WOW - The Walk to School Challenge for FREE this academic year, thanks to funding from Active Travel England.
WOW is Living Streets' walk to school challenge to encourage more families to be active on their journey to school, resulting in a 23% average increase in walking rates and up to 30% fewer cars at the school gates.
WOW is a badge incentivised scheme where pupils are rewarded with collectable badges each month for travelling actively to school. The WOW package includes:
- A different badge each month for all children who actively travel at least once a week, until July 2025
- A welcome pack, including classroom guides and a WOW banner
- Access to a fun and interactive online Travel Tracker where pupils record how they travelled to school each day. The Travel Tracker also encourages friendly competition between classes – who will top the active travel leaderboard each month? The online system will allow your school to monitor modes of travel and shifts towards active journeys
- Further support to promote walking including an introductory launch assembly and coordinator support throughout the year

Quotes from Wiltshire schools:
“We have been delighted to be involved in the programme – The pupils were really engaged in the launch assembly. After just 3 weeks we have seen the number of active journeys increase from 56% to 71%, reducing congestion outside the school and improving pupil health & well-being!”
“In our class (Baseline) surveys, we got a strong message that children wanted opportunities to talk to their friends and experience nature on their way to school. The short walk from Ladyfield Church gives them both“
"Thanks for your support getting us up and running. This (TT stats data) is awesome. Good to compare the school sites and see where we can improve"
