Drug Education that makes a difference
Wednesday 13th June 2012
Wiltshire Secondary School PSHEE Coordinators have been sent a new set of documents with the latest recommendations for effective drug education.
These recommendations are based on the latest evidence base (May 12) and clarify which approaches are effective and approaches which are less effective or counterproductive.
Through Healthy School Plus and the Wiltshire Healthy School programme we encourage schools to use evidence based approaches, where possible, to address health and well being.
PSHE Education is most efectively delivered by teachers who have received PSHEE training. Good PSHEE teaching skills are more effective than being a "drug expert".
Some approaches to drug education, while popular with pupils and teachers, are not likely to be effective in addressing young peoples drug use.
