Extended Learning Day at Sarum Academy

Tuesday 11th March 2025

A recent Extended Learning Day at Sarum Academy provided a range of engaging opportunities for students to learn about health and wellbeing.

Year 7 juiced their way into their Health and Aspirations sessions, learning how to make healthy, nutritious smoothies, building critical thinking skills with the Navy, developing team skills and communication in the “Egg Drop Challenge”, understanding focus during some mindfulness art activities, as well as learning about working in aviation and other STEM careers from Quinetiq.

The most popular sessions were the “Egg Drop Challenge” and the Navy “critical thinking” sessions.

Year 7’s described the day as “energetic”, “fun”, “educational”, “helpful” and “juicy”! Everyone learnt a lot about aspirations for the future and themselves!

Other year groups had different areas of focus

Year 8 worked with professional writers during an English Appreciation Day.

Year 9 visited London for a Cultural Capital day.

Year 10 explored the connections between Mathematics, Art and Business.

Year 11 focussed on Study Skills and Personal Development.

Year 12, along with year 10, had Mock Interviews.

Sarum Academy recently achieved Healthy Schools accreditation. During the visit the student panel had wowed the guests discussing important school issues like vaping, food, SEND, the balance of lessons in the curriculum, extracurricular activities such as sport clubs, activities week and other programmes the school runs to encourage and inspire healthier living and learning such as the Peer Mentoring programme.

The report that followed the accreditation visit to the school stated:

“It is evident that Sarum Academy has a strong commitment to supporting emotional and physical wellbeing. Students demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the PSHE curriculum and could recall PSHE topics they had learnt in previous years.

In addition, we were very impressed by the Peer Mentoring scheme”.
