Free Healthy Relationships Media Workshop and Assemblies for your Secondary School
Monday 2nd September 2024
Your school is being offered a series of free, interactive, creative media workshops and assemblies on healthy relationships as part of the public health approach to breaking the cycle of domestic abuse funded by Wiltshire Council.
The Workshop
In the 3-hour, hands-on media workshop we ask your students to imagine that they’re influential podcasters, and to use that platform to make a short podcast to spread the word to other young people about the topic of healthy relationships.
In this session, we will cover what healthy and unhealthy relationships look like in both friendships and personal relationships, and how to be aware of potential threats and dangers. We’ll cover the most relevant and up-to-date facts about healthy relationships, highlighting local case studies and the consequences for young people, their friends and family. We’ll also touch on domestic abuse and the warning signs of an abusive relationship at the same time as signposting to Wiltshire domestic abuse services for witnesses, victims or perpetrators of domestic abuse.
Using critical thinking and creative writing, your students will then be encouraged to prepare scripts, record and produce their own podcast. Our expert facilitator/producers will add appropriate music and sound effects to ensure the finished media is as professional as possible and can be used as an ongoing PSHE resource for the school.
The podcasts created by Wiltshire students in the last year of this project were extremely innovative, informative and powerful, and really got Wiltshire secondary school students talking about healthy relationships – you can hear a selection of the best ones from 12 Wiltshire schools at this link to Youtube.
The Assembly
In order to make the most of our time in your school we can also deliver key elements of the workshop content to bigger groups, in an assembly format. During the 45-minute interactive, video-driven talk, students will hear the same information and message as those taking part in the workshop, getting the most important facts to a whole year group.
Teachers last year said:
‘The podcast workshops were an innovative way for students to learn and speak about such an important topic. This supports work which we already do in school fabulously. It was a great way of consolidating the message without it feeling like it was overtly about staying safe - although of course that was the message.’
David Storey, Royal Wootton Bassett Academy
‘It was really useful and informative. I was worried about how it would work for Years 7-13, but it did! It covered key and current issues and students were positive about it too.’
Eugene Spiers, Sheldon School, Chippenham

How to Get Involved
We’re offering this combination of workshop and assemblies at no charge to a limited number of Wiltshire secondary schools, and we’d love your school to be part of this initiative for change. The workshop offer is designed for up to 30 students of your choosing, while the assembly is open to as many students as you can fit into one room. We work flexibly with schools to ensure we can deliver this content in the format that is best for your curriculum and timetable.
To secure your workshop and assemblies, or even if you just have more questions, email our team at schoolsupport@collaboratedigital.com or call 07715 000 772.
