LifeSavers
LifeSavers is a financial education programme for primary schools, helping children manage money wisely now and in the future. Delivered by the Just Finance Foundation, it is being made available free of charge to the first 10 Wiltshire schools thanks to a generous funder.
The classroom resources are based on a series of lessons and activities which focus on our ‘5 Big Questions About Money’. They fit well with the PSHE curriculum and the materials develop alongside of the children as they progress through the school.
LifeSavers has three key elements:
- School savings clubs set up in partnership with a local credit union and run by pupils under adult supervision, with children encouraged to save small, regular amounts of money.
- Intensive support to schools – teacher training and resources - to help integrate financial education within the whole school curriculum.
- A community approach involving parents and volunteers
Milo's Money
Milo’s Money was created as part of a project to understand the most effective way to teach financial literacy to 5-7 year olds. Thanks to a generous funder, it is now available as a free teaching resource for Early Years and Key Stage 1 to the first 10 Wiltshire Schools. It aims to establish a strong foundation for developing a healthy relationship with money.
Featuring a friendly dinosaur who learns about coins and the ways to use them, Milo’s Money draws on evidence-based best practice and participating schools receive a physical and digital story-book, a stuffed Milo dinosaur, an online game and access to over 50 additional activity ideas. The resources are flexible, giving teachers control and creativity over when and how they are incorporated into broader lesson planning.
Children are introduced to basic financial literacy concepts and the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes around money that will be built on in Key Stage 2. Using child-friendly language and relatable scenarios, Milo’s Money introduces key concepts:
- Spending
- Saving
- Deferred/Delayed gratification
- Sharing
- Giving
- Wants vs Needs
- Entrepreneurial ways to earn money
