New date for 'Closing the gap by enhancing the wellbeing of disadvantaged learners'

Monday 28th September 2015

This course, which was oversubscribed when it last ran in March 2015, is now open for bookings on www.wiltscpd.co.uk

The new date is Wednesday 20th January 2016

This is a free event for all Wiltshire Academies and LA primary and secondary schools and will be held at Devizes Corn Exchange.

It is clear that if children are in the right place in terms of their emotional health and wellbeing, they will be in the right place for the best teaching and learning to take place. Getting our disadvantaged children into this space should be our primary consideration - so that we know they will be able to access and make the most of the opportunities that will support their progress, and ultimately, life-chances.

This course targets this specific concern, and will enable participants to:

  • Understand the causes of disadvantage and vulnerability to better plan effective interventions
  • Consider the use of mindfulness in PSHE to increase resilience and concentration
  • Develop skills and confidence in using a solution-focused approach to improve wellbeing

By the end of the session you will have:

  • had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of what underpins disadvantage and vulnerability, so that you can best target with appropriate interventions
  • been able to consider the effective use of mindfulness in PSHE as an aid to enhancing concentration and improving resilience
  • developed greater skill and confidence to enable you to plan impactful approaches to improving the emotional health and wellbeing of disadvantaged children
