The latest book from the CW book club (now closed)

Thursday 5th November 2020

The Charlie Waller Book Club Opt-in opened today, but soon reached reached the maximum number of entries.

The book may soon become available at a discounted rate in the CW shop.

The book club title is Something Bad Happened

A Kid's Guide to Coping with Events in the News
By Dawn Huebner

Please note, this book is suitable for young people aged 6-12 years so please only request a copy if you work with or are a parent to young people in this age group. Please also remember to review the terms and conditions before completing the opt-in form.

Aimed at ages 6-12, this book helps children think about serious world events, make sense of why they may have happened and their impact, and ask questions of the adults around them.

Dawn’s easy to follow style makes it suitable for children to read themselves. Each chapter covers different things children need to make sense of negative events and there are practical activities they can do along the way. Learning from events, even if the child has no direct experience of them, will help them apply the learning to themselves in the future. The useful and informative illustrations make it more accessible to children who may find it harder to read.

Book Club terms and conditions

  • The opt-in form will open at 8am on Thursday 5 November 2020 and close once the application limit has been reached.
  • Only ONE book per establishment is allowed for this book club mailing (please make sure you talk to your colleagues before completing the opt-in survey to avoid duplicates).
  • You must complete the opt-in form to receive your copy of this book.
  • You can only claim a free copy if you either work for a school, a not-for-profit organisation or if you are a parent or carer claiming it for personal use.
  • If you are not successful in receiving one of our free copies we will contact you with information about how you can purchase the book at a discounted price.
  • We will aim to dispatch the books by December, but please be patient with us as we are not able to have the same number of volunteers helping pack the books so the process will take longer this time round.

International 'opt-ins' - we are happy to send books overseas but would ask you to make a donation towards the cost of the postage. Please contact us for details.
