School Food Champions
In an important link between food lessons and the quality of the food served for school lunch, the D&T Association (in partnership with British Nutrition Foundation, and Eagle Services Solutions) have recently launched a School Food Champion programme. Nationally, the programme will have 1000 school food champions, the first wave started work in the autumn term.
Food Teachers are well placed to take on a role of Champion supporting headteachers and governors. They have a great understanding of nutrition and food standards, they often have a previous career in catering and food service, and best of all they have a passion and love of great food. Most important for the school, it is cost effective and the change can be sustained as it is lead from within, not by an outside consultancy.
We are looking for passionate food teachers to join the programme. If your school is state funded and has lower than average (43%) lunch take-up please do get in touch www.schoolfoodchampions.org.uk
