Sign up to the Schools Allergy Code

Thursday 31st October 2024

The Schools Allergy Code sets out best practice to help schools keep pupils with allergies safer. It is recommended by the Department for Education as part of its Allergy Guidance for Schools, which forms part of the School Food Standards.

As well as providing a set of standards, the Code includes clear guidance on how to implement these in any setting and a checklist so schools can identify where they are meeting best practice.

The Code is not a set of rules and regulations but it is a guide to best practice in achieving a whole school approach to allergy safety and inclusion.

All schools are encouraged to use the Schools Allergy Code to ensure good allergy management in their setting. The Code and its accompanying Checklist are free resources.

Any school can download the Code which was drawn up by The Allergy Team, ISBA and Benedict Blythe Foundation and has the backing of clinicians and families.

Schools who adhere to the code can apply to be on the Schools Allergy Register.
