Smokefree Cars Legislation and Stoptober

Stoptober and Smokefree Cars Legislation
You may be aware that from 01 October there will be some new legislation coming in making it illegal to smoke in a car with anyone under the age of 18 present.
The national Public Awareness campaign is being led by Public Health England (PHE) and they are combining the promotion with the national mass stop smoking campaign, Stoptober. Please find below links to relevant leaflets and the key messages.
The Smokefree car legislation and Stoptober are particularly important as we know children start smoking by copying adult behaviours. We also know that 65% of people who do smoke start before 18 years old. This new legislation supports further our ambition for smokefree environments including at home, schools, children’s centres, early years settings and play areas where children and young people can learn, socialise and play together without exposure to second-hand smoke.

With the new legislation creating another smoke free environment this gives smokers one more reason to quit and the Stoptober campaign can help smokers to achieve success with stopping. Locally free support and advice can also be provided by the Wiltshire Stop Smoking Service
