Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel is back for 2025!
This year’s challenge runs from 24 March- 4 April, is free for all schools in the UK to enter and there are daily prizes for schools to win.
Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel, in partnership with Schwalbe, is the UK’s largest walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to school challenge. On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can record the greatest proportion of their pupils taking active journeys to school.
It’s a fantastic opportunity to introduce or continue to encourage active travel to schools in a fun and positive way. Taking part also counts towards schools Modeshift STARS.
There is also a range of free resources to help schools run the competition and to encourage their pupils to learn about the benefits of getting to school actively.
A 2021 YouGov study showed nearly half of UK children worry about air pollution near their school. And that children thought active travel was the best away to bring down these pollution levels.
