Updated Critical Incident Toolkit for Wiltshire Schools

Monday 2nd December 2024

The Wiltshire Council Educational Psychology Service has collaborated with Social Care, Public Health and CAMHS to produce a Critical Incident and Suspected Suicide Toolkit for Schools and Education Providers, which can be found on Right Choice here.

The Toolkit details a new process for notifying the Local Authority of a Critical Incident. All Critical Incidents will now be reported via the Integrated Front Door on 03004560108 during work hours (until 4pm on Fridays) or out of hours on 03004560100. This ensures that safeguarding vulnerable students is at the heart of planning our critical incident support.

The new toolkit has been reviewed with schools who have recently experienced a Critical Incident as well as with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, one of our key alternative education providers. The Charities Wiltshire Treehouse and Re-think (bereavement support after suicide) have also contributed their feedback.

The Critical Incident and Suspected Suicide Toolkit contains a full guide to what a Critical incident is, a complete process for responding to an incident in your setting, as well as what you can expect in terms of multi-agency support from the Local Authority and other agencies.

Training in Critical Incident response will be rolling out in the New Year.

Critical Incidents are rare, but they can happen at any time, so being familiar with how to respond is important in terms of being prepared.
