Friday 3rd March 2017
The work of one of the Wiltshire Thrive schools is featured today in on the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald website.
Pupils at the John Bentley school have been working with Kidscape to train peer mentors.
As part of Wiltshire's plan to support children and young people's emotional wellbeing and mental health, Thrive Hubs were established in 6 Wiltshire secondary schools during 2016:
- Abbeyfield School, Chippenham
- The John Bentley School, Calne
- The John of Gaunt School, Trowbridge
- Matravers School, Westbury
- Sarum Academy, Salisbury
- The Stonehenge School, Amesbury
A further 5 schools joined the programme during 2017:
- The Clarendon Academy
- The Corsham School
- Devizes School
- Downland School, Devizes
- Kingdown School, Warminster
Thrive Hub schools are receiving additional support to help build children and young people's resilience, support parents/carers and promote mentally healthy schools. This is a joint project involving Wiltshire CCG, schools and Wiltshire Council, making use of CCG transformation funding for children and young people's mental health and wellbeing.
Support available to Wiltshire Thrive Hub schools includes:
- Additional support from CAMHS
- Evidence based parenting programmes, from the Ministry of Parenting
- Online counselling for students from Kooth
- Peer education, working with Kidscape
- Access to the Royal Society of Public Health Youth Health Champions programme
- Youth Mental Health First Aid training
Through strengthening early intervention and prevention in schools we hope to see problems being tackled as soon as they arise, reducing demand for more costly specialist interventions when problems may have become more serious.
