Wiltshire’s Children and Young People’s Health and Wellbeing Survey 2020
Wednesday 11th September 2019
All Wiltshire schools and colleges have been invited today to take part in the Wiltshire’s Children and Young People’s Health and Wellbeing Survey 2020
This survey is for all pupils in years 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12 including FE colleges and participation is free for all schools, academies and colleges. It provides invaluable data for schools/colleges to monitor impact and set priority areas for improvement for the health and wellbeing of their pupils and young people. The survey will run from 13 January until 31 March 2020.
Benefits of taking part include:
Participation in this survey provides useful data that, at both school and county level, will contribute to the promotion of physical and mental health and wellbeing in schools.
Promoting physical and mental health in schools creates a virtuous circle reinforcing children’s attainment and achievement that in turn improves their wellbeing, enabling children to thrive and achieve their full potential (PHE, 2014)
Schools/colleges involved will receive an overview report of its own data compared with the average for Wiltshire’s schools on a range of issues such as levels of physical activity and how safe pupils feel at school. This will provide you with useful information for Ofsted inspections, including information on pupil safety, physical and mental wellbeing.
The data from this survey will provide a powerful vehicle for pupil voice. The data will enable you to more effectively plan your PSHE education curriculum and Healthy Schools work, to meet the identified needs of your pupils.
The survey results will provide a comprehensive picture of the needs of children and young people across the whole of Wiltshire providing important data showing behaviour change of children aged 8 through to over 16 years old. The information will also be used by Wiltshire Council to inform strategic planning across the County and by the School Nursing Service to ensure that it is targeting support where it is most needed.
The survey is online, engaging and easy for pupils to use and asks a series of questions across a range of health-related issues. More details will be sent out in November and this will give you a chance to view the questions. Primary, Secondary, Special and the Year 12/FE surveys differ slightly and are age appropriate. The survey takes most pupils about 30-40 minutes to complete and, with some additional time to introduce the survey, can usually be fitted into a lesson period.
Wiltshire’s Health and Wellbeing Pupil Survey 2020 will be live for schools to access from
13 January until 31 March 2020.
