PAPYRUS (from 2024)

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is the UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people.

PAPYRUS exists to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives, by shattering the stigma surrounding suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to emotional distress

This is done in three ways

  • supporting those who are experiencing thoughts of suicide
  • equipping communities through suicide prevention training and awareness raising
  • influencing government policy on a local and national scale.

At HOPELINE247 – PAPYRUS’s dedicated suicide prevention helpline – our trained advisers work on a safety plan with young people aged 35 and under who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, to help keep them safe for now.

Suicide prevention training for Wiltshire schools

We hope to offer CPD sessions for Wiltshire schools later this year including the SPARK presentaion.

Free training workshop for professionals

As part of events to mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 Papyrus are offering this event for professionals working with children and young people in Swindon and Wiltshire.

This has been created in collaboration of a range of Swindon charities therefore much of the information will be Swindon focused, however some of the charities work across Swindon and Wiltshire, and there will be some information that crosses both.

The Suicide Prevention Workshop will take place on Monday 9th September, 1-3pm via MS Teams.

This workshop will include training about

  • suicide prevention (from Papyrus, Prevention of Young Suicide)
  • interventions for children & young people (from IPSUM)
  • supporting children and young people who are bereaved by suicide (from Wiltshire Treehouse)

This is a great opportunity to learn more about how to safeguard the children/young people you work with, and to find out about the local services available to support them.
