During 2016 Wiltshire primary school teachers were offered a free day of training working with Brook to help them develop skills to teach about healthy relationships, exploitation, abuse, pornography and consent.

During 2015 trainers from Brook worked with secondary school staff to consider how they could effectively address similar topics through PSHE education.

Teachers who attended went away having a clear idea of the changes they would make to their practice:

“update sex ed scheme of work to include pornography, consent and sexual bullying”

“integrate more on CSE etc into programme”

Secondary schools that attended the 2015 training were provided with the DVD resource and teaching materials ‘Cruel Kindness’, from Safe and Sound Derby and primary schools in 2016 were provided with a set of 'Growing up Safe' cards from Big Talk Education.

“Really enjoyed the day and found it extremely useful and motivating”.

HBT bullying training

Working with Brook we are currently able to offer a limited number of Wiltshire schools free homophobic, biphobic and transphobic (HBT) bullying training.

This training is fully funded by the Government Equalities Office (part of the Department for Education).

Both online and face to face training are available.

Face-to-face specialist training includes:

School policy writing and implementation
Curriculum planning
Transgender issues and gender stereotyping
Supporting pupils and working with parents

Peer-to-peer support forums for educators to share good practice
Lesson plans and other resources
Updates on legislation, research and new initiatives
